Clay Pipe Installation Handbook

Chapter 9, Testing Installed Lines

Final Testing

Final testing is normally required as proof of proper workmanship. Water or air testing are the most common methods. Due to the known structural integrity of clay pipe, no additional tests are required.

The particular type of testing will usually be outlined in detailed form in the engineer's project specifications. The testing procedure should be carefully read and followed.

The pipe manufacturer may be contacted to obtain test procedures and tables. If careful attention has been given to the specifications and the construction details, there will be no difficulty in passing any of the commonly specified test procedures. (Figures 30 & 31)

Careful design by the engineer and quality pipe are not enough to insure a successful pipeline. Attention to detail in the pipe installation by the contractor and inspector is essential to provide a trouble-free, permanent sewer line. It's a team effort. (Figure 32)
