Clay Pipe
Installation Handbook![]()
The engineer's plans and specifications describe the scope of the work to be performed. These specifications may refer to standards established by recognized organizations. The provisions of these standards serve as an excellent supplement to procedures contained in the contract specifications.
All pipe is inspected at the factory. It should be reinspected at the point of delivery. Rejected pipe shall not be marked or defaced in any manner and the supplier notified immediately of the reasons for rejection.
Those concerned with pipe installation should be familiar with the latest revision of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Specifications:
C 12 - Installing Vitrified Clay Pipe Lines C 425 - Compression Joints for Vitrified Clay Pipe and Fittings C 700 - Vitrified Clay Pipe, Extra Strength, Standard Strength and Perforated C 828 - Low-Pressure Air Test of Vitrified Clay Pipe Lines C 896 - Standard Definitions of Terms Relating to Clay Products Cl 091 - Hydrostatic In filtration and Exfiltration Testing of Vitrified Clay Pipe Lines
Copies of these and other pertinent standard specifications may be obtained from the National Clay Pipe Institute or from your nearby clay pipe supplier.
